Open Research Europe (https://open-research-europe.ec.europa.eu/) is the open access publishing venue of the European Commission. It is currently published by F1000, an open access publisher that is part of the Taylor and Francis Group. Open Research Europe is a multidisciplinary title and covers all subject disciplines. It uses the OECD’s subject level ontology (Frascati Manual) and the six major areas it covers are Natural Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences, Technology and Engineering, Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, Social Sciences and the Humanities and the Arts. These major areas can easily be navigated to from the homepage.
Open Research Europe is listed under Taylor and Francis COPE membership (https://publicationethics.org/category/publisher/taylor-and-francis; https://publicationethics.org/members/open-research-europe) and follows the COPE guidelines in all its editorial practices. We are also aligned with the Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) guidelines (https://osf.io/ud578; https://topfactor.org/journals/open-research-europe). As a European Commission grant holder authors have to complete a rigorous ethic self-assessment: https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/docs/2021-2027/common/guidance/how-to-complete-your-ethics-self-assessment_en.pdf. Open Research Europe’s publishing policies align with the Horizon funding programs. Its scope (https://open-research-europe.ec.europa.eu/about/) is to publish peer-reviewed articles exclusively for the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe funding programs. These funding programs are the flagship funding of European research including all European Research Council (ERC) (https://erc.europa.eu/homepage) and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) grants (https://marie-sklodowska-curie-actions.ec.europa.eu/). These funding schemes represent the premier of European funding for excellent frontier research. In particular the ERC and MSCA programmes are among Europe's most competitive and prestigious research and innovation fellowships and work funded by these schemes have won 14 Nobel Prizes, 6 Fields Medals, 11 Wolf Prizes. More than one third of all the content published on ORE comes from these two excellent funding schemes representing some of the best work being conducted in Europe.
