About the Norwegian Register

The Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers gives you an overview over approved academic publication channels and information about them.

Last updated: 21. February 2024

A source for information

In the Norwegian Register, you can find information about academic quality. You will find an overview over which publication channels that we recognize as academic and which level they have. You can also check if the publication channel allows open access publishing, by looking at the information we for instance collect from the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

Disclaimer

The Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers collects information from other sources and registers. We will endeavour to keep the information up to date and accurate, but we do not accept any liability in relation to any errors or outdated data.

The administration of the Norwegian Register

The Norwegian Register is run by The Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir). We work together with the National Board of Scholarly Publishing (NPU) about the academic quality of the publication channels.

NPU officially approves the publication channels, but at the decision meetings for level 1, we only discuss the suggestions that we in the Norwegian Register finds difficult to evaluate based on the criteria for level 1. In addition, we discuss already approved publication channels, that we consider downgrading to level 0 (not approved) due to new information.

Decision meetings for level 1

  • We consider new proposals for level 1 continuously.
  • We officially approve or disapprove proposals for level 1 at the decision meetings with representatives from The National Board of Scholarly Publishing (NPU), including an observer from Cristin.
  • We have the decision meetings in June, October, and January.
  • If you want us to consider your proposal for the current year, you must register it within the deadline 30. November.
