The criteria for level 1 have been updated! We have expanded the criteria with more points to highlight what we are considering, in addition to the minimum criteria.

The Norwegian Register is updated with final levels for 2024 and new levels for 2025 in mid-February. 


Levels and changes of levels in the Norwegian Register

The Directorate receives information about the publishing agreements (consortium agreements) from Sikt (Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research). We cannot update the Norwegian Register before we have received updated information from Sikt. 

When do we update the Norwegian Register with information about the publishing agreements?

The Norwegian Register is now launched with a long-awaited update, with improvements on security and usability. 

New and improved Norwegian Register

The Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers is owned and hosted by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Research. The Norwegian Register’s function is to give quality assured information about academic journals, series and publishers. 

Who and what is the Norwegian Register?

From 2025 the Norwegian Government makes changes in the system for funding of Universities and University Colleges. Publication points will no longer be part of the funding of the higher education institutions in Norway.

At the meeting of the National Board of Scholarly Publishing 3. December 2021, the National Board decided to do a major review among the already approved journals in the Norwegian Register. We effectuated the results of the review 1. August 2023.
