The Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers is owned and hosted by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Research. The Directorate receives information about the publishing agreements (consortium agreements) from Sikt (Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research). Academic publishing is no longer part of the funding of higher education institutions in Norway

From 2025 the Norwegian Government makes changes in the system for funding of Universities and University Colleges. Publication points will no longer be part of the funding of the higher education institutions in Norway. The National Board of Scholarly Publishing has reviewed the Norwegian Register

At the meeting of the National Board of Scholarly Publishing 3. December 2021, the National Board decided to do a major review among the already approved journals in the Norwegian Register. We effectuated the results of the review 1. August 2023.
