Before you suggest a new publication channel
Before you suggest a publication channel (journal, series or publisher) for approval at level 1, you should be aware of the following:
Have you checked that the publication channel isn’t already in The Norwegian Register?
Please check The Norwegian Register by searching for the publication channel before you register it as a new suggestion. The publication channel might already be indexed and approved as an academic publication channel.
Is the publication channel indexed, but at level 0?
You should find out why the publication channel is not approved before you register it as a new suggestion. Make sure that you document the criteria well.
Is the publication channel indexed at level 1, but you wish to nominate it for level 2?
Then you must write arguments for upgrading it in a professional comment.
Is the publication channel indexed at level 1, but you wish to change the information we have registered?
Then you should write what we need to change in an «update information” comment.
Is the publication channel indexed, but under discussion (X)?
Then you can give feedback by commenting at the publication channel.
How to comment

- Go to the information page for the publication channel and scroll down until you see "New comment".
- Click on "New comment" and check off for the comment type that you find appropriate.

Deadline
We will consider all suggestions registered within 30. November for approval at level 1 the current year.
Is the publication channel new?
ISSN is a unique identifier for journals, series, and other periodicals. ISSN consists of eight digits, written with a hyphen in the middle.
If the publication channel you want to suggest is recently established, you should check that the ISSN is valid. The ISSN is valid if it has the status “confirmed” in the international ISSN Register.
In addition to at least one valid ISSN, the publication channel must have published articles corresponding to at least two issues. This is because we need to check the authorship and see that the publication channel is active.
We do not approve publication channels before at least one ISSN is valid and before the publication channel has published anything.
Is the publication channel academic?
We do not approve publication channels as academic unless they publish academic content. Encyclopaedia, cultural magazines, professional journals, and popular science journals are examples on publication channels that are not regarded as academic.
We can approve publication channels that publish a mix of academic content and other types of content.
An academic publication must
- Present new insight.
- Be presented in a form that allows the research findings to be verified and/or used in new research activity.
- Be written in a language and have a distribution that make the publication accessible to most interested researchers.
- Appear in a publication channel (journal, series, book publisher, website) that has routines for external peer review.

Can you document the criteria?
The criteria for level 1 must be fulfilled if we are going to approve a publication channel. If the documentation on the criteria is not available at the internet, you must make sure to gather the documentation we ask for and upload it in the application form.
