Publishing agreements about open access

In the Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers, we mark journals that is part of open access publishing agreements with publishers.

Last updated: 26. March 2025

If you are the corresponding author and affiliated with an institution included in a publishing agreement, you can publish in most of the publishers’ journals without direct expenses.

Labelling in the Norwegian Register

In the search result you will see that the journals are marked as “included in a publishing agreement” when they are included in a publishing agreement about open access. If you go to the journal’s information page in the Norwegian Register, you will see which type of agreement and which institutions that are included.

We differentiate between institutional agreements and consortium agreements to distinguish between agreements negotiated by individual institutions and agreements negotiated by Sikt.

A journal might be part of both an institutional agreement and a consortium agreement. Sometimes the various agreements might show different publishers. In addition, a journal might be marked with two consortium agreements with two different publishers. The reason is that the journal has changed publisher and that the change has happened before the Norwegian Register has received new data about one of the agreements or the agreement from Sikt.

NB! Even though the journal is part of a publishing agreement, the journal might have the status not approved (level 0) in the Norwegian Register, or not be indexed at all. Therefore, always check whether the journal you want to publish in is approved at level 1 or level 2 in the Norwegian Register.

Institutional agrements

  • are agreements entered directly by individual institutions and publishers.
  • are not part of the consortium agreements negotiated by Sikt (marked as consortium agreements in the Norwegian Register).
  • can be registered by using the form for institutional agreements.
  • can be updated by using the same form as above.
  • For questions about the institutional agreements, contact your institutional library.

Consortium agreements

  • Are agreements negotiated by Sikt.
  • We receive information about the consortium agreements from Sikt.
  • The Norwegian Register is updated when Sikt has sent us new information.
  • The Norwegian Register does not distinguish between the different types for publishing agreements.
  • We recommend that you check openscience.no for details about what the publishing agreement entails.
  • Sikt controls the data before the information about the agreements are sent to us, it may therefore take some time from updated information is published on openscience.no until the Norwegian Register is updated.
  • For questions about the consortium agreements, contact your institutional library, as the library administer the agreements.
