The National Board of Scholarly Publishing

The National Board of Scholarly Publishing (NPU) has officially the responsibility for approval of academic publication channels.

The National Board of Scholarly Publishing, hereafter called NPU, consists of representatives from the university and university college sector, institute sector and health trusts. NPU has the responsibility for the professional management of the publication indicator and is an advisory body within academic publication.

The members of NPU are appointed by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills. NPU also reports to the Directorate. NPU's mission is determined by the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research. The Ministry may change the mission after suggestions from the Directorate.

NPU has a committee that participates at the decision meetings for level 1. It is also NPU that organise the scientific panels and approves or disapproves the scientific panels' nomination suggestions for level 2.

The Norwegian Register participate at the meetings of NPU as an observer.
