Logg inn for å kommentereResearch in Mathematics Education (RME) is an international journal, with a full peer review system. Its current standing as one of the top journals in the field of mathematics education, is noted in a review by Steven R. Williams and Keith R. Leatham (2017) Journal Quality in Mathematics Education, Journal for Research in Mathematics Education Vol. 48, No. 4, 369–396.
Past editors include Professor Tim Rowland (Professor 2 at NTNU, and now an advisory editor), and Professor Yvette Solomon (Adjunct Professor at OsloMet University, and editor of the journal from 2013-2017). The advisory editors and the Editorial Board together comprise 27 international scholars who are prominent in the field and are active participants in the peer review process. See https://www.tandfonline.com/action/journalInformation?show=editorialBoard&journalCode=rrme20
The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles from a wide range of international scholars, including authors in the USA, Canada, Israel, Europe and Scandinavia as well as the UK. Recent statistics show an increase in citations and downloads over the last 3 years, with a Scopus Citescore of 0.39 in 2017.
RME is now ranked in Quartile 1 for both Education and Mathematics from 2016. Norway features in the top 10 countries now for journal downloads, but Norway does not feature in the top 10 countries that submit to RME, suggesting that Norwegian authors are missing out on this Q1 journal.
RME publishes 3 issues each year, of which one is a Special Issue. Guest editors over the last 5 years have included eminent scholars in the field:
2014: 16 (2) ‘Institutional, sociocultural and discursive approaches to research in university mathematics education’ edited by Elena Nardi (University of East Anglia), Irene Biza (University of East Anglia), Alejandro S. González-Martín (University of Montreal), Ghislaine Gueudet (University of Bretagne Occidentale) & Carl Winsløw (University of Copenhagen).
2015: 17 (2) ‘Mathematics teaching: Tales of the unexpected’, edited by Tim Rowland (Cambridge University), Jeremy Hodgen (University of London) and Yvette Solomon (Manchester Metropolitan University/Oslo Met University).
2016: 18 (2) ‘A discursive approach to the investigation of school mathematics’, edited by Candia Morgan (University of London) and Anna Sfard (University of Haifa).
2017: 19 (2) ‘Summative assessment in mathematics education’, edited by Paola Iannone and Ian Jones (Loughborough University).
2018: 20 (2) ‘Mathematics Education in the Early Years’, edited by Laura Black (University of Manchester) and Eva Norén (Stockholm University).
2019: 21 (2) on ‘Mathematics education in multilingual and multicultural contexts’, edited by Richard Barwell (Ottawa University), Aldo Parra (Aalborg University), and Lena Wessel (Freiburg University).
The journal should be at level 2 on the basis of the quality of its articles, its authorship, and its high quality peer review process.
