Please move PMLA to Level 2. PMLA is the most prestigious professional publication in English literary studies, so level one is a strange classification for the most prestigious humanities and literary studies publisher in the US. For comparison, in the Finnish level system, it is assessed as Level 3 the top, not even leading level 2, publication in the field. There should not be such a discrepancy? https://www.tsv.fi/julkaisufoorumi/haku.php?nimeke=Pmla%3A+publications+of+the+modern+language+association+of+america&konferenssilyh=&issn=&tyyppi=kaikki&kieli=&maa=&wos=&scopus=&nappi=Search
Hello Hanna, we have now proposed to move PMLA up to level 2. I don't know how well you know how the system works, but there are many factors to take into account. It is not just a question of whether a journal is good enough in itself. It is very rare that we can move something to level 2 without demoting something else, for example. And we have to ensure that all the subfields in our field are represented at level 2 - literature, linguistics, didactics, philology. PMLA has been considered for a raise before (since we are well aware that it is a prestigious journal), but it was not in use by Norwegian researchers at that point, so therefore it remained at level 1. Now it's being used, hence the raise.
