As I have already one publication in this journal, the people from my university asked me for my feedback/opinion on this.
My area is Aquaculture and after looking at the few comments on this journal so far, i am afraid I cannot see any clear and solid indication that this journal is worst or better than most of the other journals, at least in my broad area, either level 1 or even level 2. As I have publications in different journals, of both levels, I can say for certain, that the review process was about the same. On the positive side, I note that the transparency of the review is higher, as the reviews are also available for the readers, so they can judge if something was 'fishy'. This is in contrast to most journals in my area, including ones from more established publishers, which I do not want to mention now. Regarding data availability, though this is indeed an important issue, again, I have to note that it is not particularly a problem for this journal, but for many other journals of level 1 or even 2, though I have already seen many papers in Antioxidants that have the proper phrasing and the availability. Of course, we could discuss the fee issue, which I do not like, as most scientists, but in my experience, this can POTENTILLY affect the review the same way, as in any other case you 'click' the option of 'open access' in hybrid journals. So unless someone can present solid figures comparing this with other journals (not necessarily Nature or Science, in which there have also been documented bad examples of publications !), the few indeed bad cases, cannot justify a generalization.

Det er fint om HK-dir kan utdype hvorfor dette useriøse tidsskriftet fortsatt gir publiseringspoeng.

Jeg er svært bekymret for utviklingen innen vitenskapelig publisering, hvor mesteparten av det som nå publiseres kun bidrar til feilinformasjon og utvanning av sannferdig vitenskap. Det må tas langt større grep for å forbedre vitenskapelig publisering og øke reproduserbarheten innen forskningen.

Dette tidsskriftet vil vi gjennomgå på vedtaksmøtet med Arbeidsutvalget for Det nasjonale publiseringsutvalget på fredag (se https://kanalregister.hkdir.no/publiseringskanaler/VedtakNiva1?dato=2023-06-16&vedtak=Alle&niva=-9&fagraad=Alle). Hva konklusjonen blir, kommer jeg tilbake til etter vedtaksmøtet.

I en analyse av innhold av de uvanlig frasene "Data availability statement: Not applicable" og ”Data is contained within the article” scorer dette tidsskriftet svært høyt. Henholdvis 287 og 1131 artikler ble identifisert for å inneholde disse frasene under Data availability. Alle artiklene er publisert i perioden 2021-2023.

Flere av disse artiklene er oversiktsartikler, hvor slike fraser under Data availablity kan forsvares. Til tross for dette, er mange av de identifiserte artiklene originalartikler, hvor dette er uakseptabelet og direkte feil.

Publisering av et så stort antall artikler med disse uvanlige og uvitenskapelige frasene er mistenkelig og tyder på publisering av masseproduserte meningsløse artikler uten vitenskapelig innhold.

Redaksjonen mangler tydeligvis den nødvendige kvalitetskontrollen for å drive et seriøst tidsskrift. Videre bryter de med prinsippet om åpenhet og at data skal være tilgjengelig.
